Roy Tarpley, the Dallas Mavericks’ troubled forward, missed a team practice and a team dinner on Sunday night, saying he was sick, then showed up at practice Monday morning but left early without explanation.
Later, he asked to meet with with counselors at a drug- and alcohol-rehabilitation clinic in Houston. Tarpley is an outpatient of the clinic.
Tarpley has twice violated NBA drug-abuse rules.
Tarpley could not be reached, but his attorney, Jay Ethington, said: “I can assure you it is a non-drug-related personal matter.”
