A member of the board of directors of the Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center must face a recall election, Los Angeles County officials announced Tuesday.

It is not yet clear whether a campaign to force such an election for another member of the board was successful, the county registrar of voters added.

The registrar’s office said the recall proponents had gathered more than the 14,339 voter signatures required to force board member Anne Brouillette into an election.

The determination was based on a 5% sampling of 25,948 signatures submitted against her.

However, a spokeswoman said the sampling result was too close to call for board member Steve Fox, so the registrar will have to check all 26,064 signatures submitted against him, which could take weeks.

A recall election for one or both officials will be held next spring.

Since their election last November, Brouillette and Fox have repeatedly clashed with hospital officials and last month helped oust John T. Evans, the public hospital’s longtime administrator.

The recall campaign was begun last May by supporters of Evans.
