Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : $151-Billion Transit Bill OKd by Panel

The House Public Works and Transportation Committee voted 52 to 3 to approve a six-year, $151-billion authorization for spending on highways, bridges, mass transit and transportation safety. Transportation Secretary Samuel K. Skinner said the bill is too costly and that he would recommend a veto. Skinner and President Bush have proposed a five-year measure costing $104.5 billion.
