Man Gets 4-Year Prison Term for Drunk Driving
A Los Feliz man whose 1989 arrest in a fatal drunk driving accident led to tougher county review procedures for traffic schools, was sentenced Wednesday to a four-year term in state prison.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William R. Pounders handed down the minimum penalty as part of a agreement in which Harry Bouboushian, 36, pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol.
Bouboushian’s black BMW crashed on Los Feliz Boulevard, killing his wife and a teen-age passenger. The accident occurred three days after Bouboushian, who had a previous drunk driving conviction, had received a certificate from a Van Nuys driving school, even though he apparently had not completed the program. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors subsequently established a board to review drunk-driver treatment programs more closely.
