COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Santa Barbara Sweeps Titans in Volleyball
UC Santa Barbara, ranked ninth in the nation, defeated Cal State Fullerton in a three-game Big West Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday at Fullerton.
Ana Elisa Franca had 14 kills for the Gauchos (13-4, 8-1 in conference), who have never lost a match to the Titans. Becky Howlett had 23 kills and eight digs for the Titans (6-18, 1-6), who lost their fifth consecutive match.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s soccer:
Cal State San Bernardino 2, Chapman 0--Merinda Tenace, daughter of Toronto Blue Jay coach and 1972 World Series MVP Gene Tenace, scored a team-high 11th goal for CS San Bernardino (8-4-1, 1-2). Chapman is 3-8-1 and 0-3.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC Irvine 3, Azusa Pacific 2--The Anteaters won their fourth consecutive game and tied a school record with their eighth victory of the season.
Molly Lynch, Carmen Morrell and Jenni Tanaka scored for the Anteaters (8-5-1), who had a 3-0 lead before Azusa Pacific scored two late goals.
