SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Travis Anderson rushed for 151 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns Friday night to lead Huntington Beach to a 28-13 victory over Westminster.

Anderson’s first score came with 5 minutes 43 seconds left after Westminster had pulled within a point on Matt Bailey’s second touchdown run. Lion quarterback Johnny Mahurien failed to connect on a two-point conversion.

On the first play after the kickoff, Anderson took the ball 75 yards for the touchdown to kill the momentum for Westminster (2-4, 1-2 in league).

Oiler cornerback Ryan Arakaki intercepted a Mahurien pass on the next series to set up another 20-yard Anderson touchdown run.

Huntington Beach (4-2, 3-0) jumped to a first-quarter lead when Jack Friend hit Jonathan Wimbish on a deep post pattern for a 52-yard touchdown.

The two hooked up again with just four seconds left in the half on a 13-yard fade.

Friend was able to find receivers deep often in the first half and ended up with 155 first-half passing yards, 160 for the game.

Oiler Coach George Pascoe said he saw some things on film that made him believe the deep pass might work.

“We thought there were some things we could take advantage of,” Pascoe said. “We were able to execute them.”
