Listening for Women

Regarding “Drive Time Isn’t Prime Time for Women,” by Claudia Puig (Oct. 13):

Anyone driving along the freeway between the hours of 6 and 8 a.m. can see women drivers. The astute observer would see them constantly bending over to change their radio stations. Why? They are, as I have been, looking for that female voice of reason, wit and clarity to help them begin their day, realizing that the radio stations provide this only on an intermittent basis.

Zany, wacky and entertaining are a matter of personal preference. I propose that radio stations that view their morning listener-ship as predominantly male review their poll takers.

If the truth be known, the major audience in the morning is women who have opted for television to satiate their morning requirements, simply because television has provided the female attitude more consistently and more palpably than radio.

The lack of optimism expressed in the article by women is only further evidence of the insidiously negative views of the all-male control evident in radio.
