Post Office Plays Favorites

In stories about people wanting to change their ZIP codes, reporters have without exception cited monetary reasons: wanting to be Beverly Hills, lower insurance rates, etc. The truth is the U. S. post office does give preferential treatment to businesses and selected individuals. I know of several in an area of Sepulveda that use Northridge and even a Northridge ZIP.

For years, the people in a small section of Sepulveda have been trying to get the post office to recognize our area as Northridge. The city and county of Los Angeles do recognize us and recently put up signs reflecting their recognition.

In 1963, the post office decided that this section of Northridge should be Sepulveda and even then it made exceptions and let some people stay Northridge. History repeats itself. The U. S. Postal Service now wants this area to be North Hills, except for all the people and businesses that enjoy the privilege of using Northridge as their address. It’s not fair.
