Teacher’s Lawsuit Sparks Indignation

Unfortunately, Mr. Peloza is missing the point in his argument with the Capistrano Unified School District over his creation views. He has every right to free speech on his own time, but not at work.

His situation with the school district is an employer-employee relationship where he is paid to perform a certain task. The task which we as taxpayers and the district are paying for is to teach our children according to the guidelines the district and, ultimately, the parents chose. This is his job, and if he fails to perform it in an acceptable way, he should be reprimanded or terminated. This sort of control has always been every employer’s right.
