Share

Ventura’s police and firefighter associations announced Saturday that they are endorsing incumbent Don Villeneuve, nursery owner Greg Carson and write-in candidate Steve Bennett in the city’s upcoming council election.

Members of the two associations said in a joint statement that the three candidates “represent the best choices for voters who want to keep Ventura a safe and healthy place to live.”

The groups cited Villeneuve’s record of supporting police and firefighters. “His leadership on the council has made it easier for us to do our job: Protecting the citizens of Ventura,” they said in a written statement.

Carson impressed the two groups with his understanding of public safety issues, and Bennett’s experience as a teacher will be important in dealing with drug and gang problems, union officials said.

Eighteen candidates are vying for three seats on the City Council.
