From Staff and Wire Reports

The Pittsburgh Penguins have listed center Mario Lemieux as day-to-day because of back spasms.

Lemieux was forced from Saturday night’s loss to the New York Rangers in the third period.

He has had periodic problems with his back after missing most of last season recovering from surgery and a back infection. He has played every game this season.

Team spokeswoman Cindy Himes said Sunday that Lemieux had no trouble with his back at practice Friday.

“He felt great. His back felt great,” she said. “He might be perfectly fine at practice tomorrow morning or he might have a little twinge.”

Lemieux had two assists Saturday to raise his team-leading point total to 13 in seven games.
