Now They Are One: NBC will merge “Sunday Today” and “Today” into a single six-day-a-week operation under the direction of “Today” executive producer Tom Capra. The “Sunday Today” staff will move to New York from Washington. Garrick Utley and Mary Alice Williams will continue as co-anchors on “Sunday Today.” Tim Russert, Washington bureau chief for NBC News and a regular panelist on “Meet the Press,” will succeed Utley as moderator of that long-running program which will continue to be broadcast from Washington. The move is being made to streamline operations. Changes take effect Nov. 24.
