Borland Reports $103-Million Loss

Borland International on Friday posted a $103-million loss in its fiscal second quarter, reflecting the costs of its recently completed acquisition of Torrance-based Ashton-Tate.

The Scotts Valley, Calif., computer software publisher said the loss for the quarter ended Sept. 30 included a one-time pretax restructuring charge of $97 million related to the acquisition of Ashton-Tate. In addition, the results included a one-time pretax charge of $13 million for transaction costs associated with the acquisition.

In the year-ago quarter, Borland lost $7.6 million. Revenue for the latest quarter rose 13.2% to $113.9 million.
