A special education aide in Glendale was arrested after a student he was disciplining aboard a school bus stopped breathing and required emergency resuscitation and hospital care, Glendale police said Friday.

Alex Samson, 22, of Los Angeles, an aide at the Tobinworld school for autistic and emotionally disturbed children, was jailed on suspicion of felony child abuse, police said. Sgt. Lief Nicolaisen said Samson held Derek Collins, 9, of Los Angeles, face down on a bus bench after the boy repeatedly misbehaved during the ride to school Thursday morning.

After the boy stopped breathing, he was revived by staff members and paramedics, then rushed to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition with possible brain damage, Nicolaisen said. Judith Weber, executive director of Tobinworld, declined to comment on the incident.
