MOORPARK : 3 Gain Endorsement of Teachers Union

Moorpark’s teachers union has endorsed three candidates for the Nov. 5 school board elections.

After interviewing all six candidates Thursday, the union’s governing board voted unanimously Friday to endorse candidates Greg Barker and Clint Harper and incumbent Tom Baldwin for the three open seats, said Guy Aronoff, vice president of the Moorpark Educators Assn.

School Board President Cynthia Hubbard, who is up for reelection, was the union’s fourth choice, Aronoff said. But she did not get one of the three endorsements because of concerns over her voting record and her personal life, he said.

Earlier this year, Hubbard was involved in a well-publicized dispute with a neighbor over the neighbor’s dog.

The union also did not endorse challengers David Lorenzen or Lorraine Feuerstein.

Aronoff said the union considered Barker, a parent and teacher, to be the best-qualified candidate. Harper, a college professor, was the second favorite. Baldwin, who is running for a second term, was chosen because of his strong support for the union and for school programs, such as special education, Aronoff said.
