CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : BURNEY : Two Men Sought in Deputy’s Killing
- Share via
Searchers backed by police dogs and helicopters went door-to-door in the rugged mountains of eastern Shasta County, hunting for two men sought for questioning in the killing of a sheriff’s deputy. More than 100 officers from 12 law enforcement agencies assisted in the search in a sparsely populated region about 50 miles east of Redding. Authorities sealed off the area, searching all motorists entering or leaving. The two, both citizens of Mexico, were identified as Carlos Estrada, 24, and Tomas Cruz-Verano, 23. Meanwhile, about 1,000 area residents, police and others attended memorial services for Deputy Ken Perrigo, 32, who was found Monday shot to death in his patrol car.
