Dust off your plastic Dracula fangs, dig out Junior’s old Spiderman costume. It’s that time of year, again.

The San Gabriel Valley, it appears, has more planned Halloween events per square mile than anywhere west of Sleepy Hollow.

Here are a couple of the more interesting-looking ones:

Start out with the Eaton Canyon Nature Center’s after-dark “Howl-O-Ween Walk” on Tuesday at 7 p.m. It’s for children of all ages.

The volunteers who help run the county facility at 1750 N. Altadena Drive in Pasadena promise a low-shock event, with traditional horror film characters lurking in the darkness, for a $3-per-person donation.

It won’t be too scary for small children, Joanne Getze, president of Eaton Canyon Associates, said.

“There will be a couple of witches with a caldron of dry ice, that sort of thing,” she said. “They won’t be jumping out at the kids.”

Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles makes no such promises

about their haunted house, which opens Wednesday in the old Pasadena Police Building at 142 N. Arroyo Parkway.

The charity enlisted the services of 150 volunteers, many of them Hollywood technicians, to create a multimedia event called “The Curse of Precinct 13.” Movie set designers and makeup artists have turned the first two stories of the building into a special effects extravaganza, reminiscent of “Nightmare on Elm Street” and the Michael Jackson video “Thriller.”

It’s going to be “ultra-scary,” said coordinator Karen Kierbel, who recommends that preschoolers not attend.

“In one room, you’ll see a man in pieces, with the body spread out all over and the pieces moving,” she added.

Deliciously gruesome? Big Brothers thinks so.

Admission to the precinct house, which will be open nightly, beginning at 7:30 p.m., through Nov. 2, is $5. The proceeds will help finance Big Brothers’ work with fatherless boys.
