An 18-year-old Vietnamese refugee who arrived in the United States only three days ago with her boyfriend was stabbed to death Saturday after a domestic dispute, authorities said.

Hang Thi Thay Dinh was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange shortly after she was stabbed once in the chest, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Steve Hicks said.

Investigators found her boyfriend, 19-year-old Kiem Van Do, walking in the neighborhood shortly after the killing and arrested him on suspicion of murder, Hicks said.

The stabbing occurred about 12:40 p.m. outside a residence in the 9000 block of Teal Street where the couple were staying with acquaintances. Hicks said police were not certain what triggered the argument that led to the stabbing, but investigators believe it was “a domestic quarrel over the couple’s relationship.”

Investigators recovered a knife that was allegedly used in the killing, Hicks said.

Do was being held without bail in County Jail in Santa Ana.
