Stallings Profile

The profile on Valerie Stallings (“Stallings’ Campaign Strategy Is Simple: ‘Just Do It’ and Win,” Oct. 6) is both interesting and inconsistent.
She is quoted, at one point, as saying, “That gave me a certain sense of values and integrity, a sense that you stick to your word and stand up for what you believe.”
It is difficult to reconcile such lofty principles with the fact that she abandoned her husband and two children in Kansas because she was “inspired” by the beauty of San Diego and the work of the Salk Institute.
One wonders if she changed her children’s diapers with the same zeal with which she “cleaned up” behind the horses in the Pacific Beach Christmas parade. And one further wonders if her commitment to public service will be as tenuous as her commitment to her family.
