GOP National Chairman Clayton K. Yeutter disavowed former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, a Louisiana gubernatorial candidate, during a debate with his Democratic counterpart in Cambridge, Mass. Democratic National Party Chairman Ron Brown said Duke, a Republican, is just one of the GOP’s troubles. “You’ve got a lot of problems. You’ve got a lot of people who must cause you to cringe,” Brown told Yeutter during the debate at Harvard University. “David Duke is not a Republican as far as I’m concerned, nor as far as the President is concerned,” Yeutter responded. Duke has been disavowed by President Bush and other GOP leaders.
