Ron Duguay returns to the Gulls today after he signed a contract Wednesday covering the remainder of the season. Duguay, 34, is expected to be in uniform tonight when the Gulls play host to the Phoenix Roadrunners at 7:35 at the Sports Arena.

Duguay, a former NHL center, played in 51 games for the Gulls last year, scoring 15 goals and 24 assists. He led the Gulls in game-winning goals with four.

“Ron is the type of player who hustles a lot out there and turns on the fans,” Coach Don Waddell said. “There’s no doubt his experience and talent will help us through the season.”

Duguay spent 13 years in the National Hockey League and was an All-Star in 1981-82, a season in which he scored 40 goals for the New York Islanders.

“I really enjoyed it here last year,” Duguay said. “I was treated really well. I love San Diego, but if I have a better opportunity, I’ll take it.

After winning six of their past nine games, the Gulls (7-7) are in third place in the International Hockey League’s Western Division.
