PREP ROUNDUP : Foothill’s Parson Sweeps, Finishes Season at 57-0

Amanda Parson finished her regular season unbeaten by sweeping her singles sets in Foothill’s 16-2 victory over El Modena in a Century League girls’ tennis match Wednesday at El Modena.

Parson, a senior, improved her singles record to 57-0, 30-0 in league play, by winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. The Knights (15-4, 10-0) won their second consecutive league title.

El Modena freshman Brandi Freudenberg, who lost to Parson, 6-7, in the teams’ first match, didn’t play Wednesday. Foothill’s doubles team of Andrea Claus and Jane Park, who won their sets, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, didn’t lose a set in league play. El Modena is 8-2 in league.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Palos Verdes Peninsula 16, University 2--Jeannette Fylpaa averted the shutout for the Trojans (9-7) by winning singles sets from Stephanie Lorman, 6-1, and Maryan Vahabzadeh, 6-0 at Racquet Club of Irvine. The Panthers, top-ranked in the Southern Section’s Division 4-A, improved to 16-0.

In Century League water polo:

Villa Park 14, Orange 4--Craig Rasmussen scored twice in a six-goal second quarter. The Spartans improved to 4-0 in league play.

In Empire League water polo:

El Dorado 10, Esperanza 6--Mikel Reta scored five goals for host El Dorado (16-7, 4-0), which clinched at least a tie for the league title.

In Orange League water polo:

Brea-Olinda 21, Magnolia 7--Scott Estrada scored five goals and Matt Preiss made 21 saves as the Wildcats (16-4, 6-0) assured themselves of their second consecutive league championship.

In Pacific Coast League water polo:

Laguna Hills 12, Trabuco Hills 11--Scott Valentine scored with 24 seconds left to cut Laguna Hills’ lead to one, but Trabuco Hills couldn’t get the ball back. Ryan Thacher had five goals for Trabuco Hills (11-8, 2-2). Chad Carvin scored three for Laguna Hills.
