California IN BRIEF : SAN DIEGO : Two Arrested in Beating of Migrants

After finding naked people on the San Diego streets and hearing screams from a nearby house, federal authorities arrested two alleged coyot e s and alleged that they beat and humiliated several migrants when the others couldn’t pay them to keep going north. The two men, each charged in San Diego federal court with a sole felony count of concealing aliens, shaved the heads of the others, allegedly at knife and gunpoint, federal prosecutors said. At a brief court hearing, prosecutors also said they were investigating allegations of sexual abuse but declined to elaborate. Armando Hernandez Ramirez, 44, and Juan Guevara Morales, 27, both illegal immigrants, were returned to the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego. U.S. Magistrate Leo Papas set bail at $30,000 apiece.
