Paris to Cannes?

COMPILED BY GAILE ROBINSON

The French designer shows were the main event last week, but not all the news came from the fashion runways. A&M; Films President Dale Pollock and “Robin Hood” director Kevin Reynolds went from ringside to ringside seat all week, researching a feature film set against the French fashion scene, Pollock explained. Vanity Fair magazine has turned its eye to Paris ready-to-wear, too. Contributing editor Maureen Orth was at the Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel shows and a late-night practice run before Chanel for a profile on the designer. Will Lagerfeld pose nude for the cover? Orth would not comment.

SHOW AND SELL: Beverly Hills perfume--and fashion-- meister Fred Hayman recently hosted a Pamela Dennis trunk show. In typical L.A. style, the dress that sold the best was a megabuck showoff. The black, T-back evening gown studded in crystals with a price tag of $3,000-plus was bought by Ted Turner-bride-to-be Jane Fonda and teen tennis ace Jennifer Capriati.

ALL JAMMED UP: Monday night, Arnold Schwarzenegger, his wife, Maria Shriver, and tot graced the opening of Jams World in Santa Monica. Not just because they own the building on Main Street. Their relationship goes way back to the days when Dave Rochlen and Kennedy clansman Peter Lawford were surfing buddies. Rochlen would send Jams products to Lawford at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., and young Maria was raised wearing them. When Arnold joined the family, he adopted their colorful wardrobe ways. And, says Rochlen, it was Arnold who persuaded him to open his shop in Santa Monica. Also on hand for opening-night festivities was Elio Fiorucci, president of Fiorucci Europe, who tells Listen his company “thinks Jams are really fun” and is negotiating a joint Jams/Fiorucci venture for Italy.

SOAP DISH: Consumers in Poland are accustomed to standing in line to buy the basic necessities. Imagine their surprise recently when Vidal Sassoon began an advertising campaign in their country. It was done in typical Western style--a blitz of television commercials and free samples delivered door-to-door.

TRICKS O’ THE TRADE: For a mere pittance you can be privy to Hollywood secrets this weekend. The tell-all session takes place Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center during “Visions: The Women’s Expo.” Costume designer Sharon Day-Nye (she outfits the cast of “WKRP in Cincinnati”) will discuss dressing on a limited budget--and share her celebrity wardrobe tricks. Admission is $5. But you can get two-for-one discount tickets, good for Saturday or Sunday, at T. J. Maxx stores. The off-price chain will mount a fashion show each afternoon at 2:15.
