Loving a Movie, Privately

Share

I am writing incognito about Gus Van Sant’s movie “My Own Private Idaho,” and I would appreciate it very much if you could have this printed in your paper.

The movie is so deliciously good that a parking citation I got while trying to catch the show on time did not bother me at all. I would have gone berserk (not matter-of-factly) had the violation occurred at some other time.

Van Sant’s portrayal of a desperate search for affection is perhaps unparalleled in time, thanks to the movie’s magnificent cast, most especially River Phoenix, whose brilliant performance could easily bend the most rigid of hearts.

Rarely do we get a chance to see Phoenix, but, like a gem, he is so unique, and he so gloriously shines on the screen. At 20, he could be the world’s youngest living legend.

It is sad that the movie only plays in few theaters. America doesn’t know what it’s missing. People won’t see this film just because it has a different theme.

But there is hope, and that’s why I am writing. I hope this gets printed and read by your subscribers--and by River Phoenix too. He is my favorite actor, and I would give up many things just to be able to see and talk to him in person.
