ORANGE : April 14 Vote on Annexation Likely

Share

Voters could be asked to decide next spring whether the city should annex the nearby unincorporated area known as Fairhaven Islands, Mayor Gene Beyer announced last week.

The three separate county territories north of Fairhaven Avenue between Yorba and Prospect streets have already been approved for annexation by the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission. However, registered voters and property owners in the areas must approve the city’s annexation of the land.

Last month, the city circulated a petition among residents of the areas proposed for annexation, and the proposal received enough opposition to force the issue to a vote. If fewer than than 25% of the registered voters in the neighborhoods protested, LAFCO’s approval would have been final.

Currently, residents in the area are scheduled to participate in a mail-in vote on April 14, 1992.

The City Council is expected to pass a resolution confirming the results of the petition and confirming the date for the mail-in vote at its Nov. 12 meeting.
