A 70-year-old Nevada man was killed in an early morning accident Tuesday when he lost control of his pickup truck on the Antelope Valley Freeway and crashed through the center divider, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Maurice Weikel, of Carson City, died at 6:20 a.m. when his southbound pickup veered for unknown reason into the median about a half-mile north of the Sierra Highway exit, Sgt. Frank Deal said.
The pickup overturned in the median, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, Deal said. The pickup then crossed the northbound lanes and came to a rest on the shoulder. No other vehicles were involved, Deal said.
One northbound lane of the freeway was briefly closed while the accident was investigated.
