PREP ATHLETE OF WEEK

Max Ocon, Glendale--Ocon, an inside linebacker and tight end, has been one of the Dynamiters’ key players all season. He intercepted a pass and scored a touchdown last week in Glendale’s 20-6 victory over Pasadena. Ocon was All-Pacific League and Times’ All-Glendale last season as an interior lineman. But Coach Don Shoemaker moved him to tight end to open holes off tackle for running back Pathon Rucker. He has 10 receptions for 146 yards. On defense, Ocon leads a unit that has allowed only 33 points in its last seven games.

COLLEGE ATHLETE OF WEEK

Becky Kopchik, Occidental--Kopchik, a sophomore from Walnut Creek, was named the SCIAC’s female runner of the year after she won the conference championship Saturday at El Prado Regional Park in Chino. Kopchik won the title by running the 5-K course in 18 minutes 40 seconds. Kopchik will participate in the NCAA Division III West regional Nov. 16 at Rancho Santa Fe near San Diego, where she hopes to qualify for the Division III nationals Nov. 23 in Newport News, Va.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW

Brian Greenfield--A former All-Western State Conference punter for Glendale College in 1988, Greenfield has been on the Cleveland Brown’s injured reserve list for the entire NFL season and will not play until next year. Greenfield, 5-11, 227 pounds, injured his back in training after the Browns drafted him in the 10th round out of the University of Pittsburgh. He averaged 45.6 yards per kick last season for Pitt.

MISCELLANY

Kim Ojeda, a junior cross-country runner at Cal State Los Angeles, qualified for this weekend’s NCAA Division II West regional in Sonoma by finishing eighth overall at the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. championships. Ojeda, who attended Eagle Rock High and Glendale College, covered the 5-K course in 18 minutes 12 seconds and helped Cal State L.A. finish third behind Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UC Riverside.
