WESTMINSTER : 3 Critically Hurt in Car Accident

Three men were critically injured Thursday when their car collided with a jeep at an intersection, fire officials said.

About 3 p.m., a Toyota heading south on Hoover Street attempted to turn left onto Hazard Avenue and collided with a Jeep, which was heading north on Hoover, Fire Capt. Craig Campbell said.

The impact crushed the Toyota, trapping one of its passengers in the car for about 10 minutes before firefighters could rescue him. Da Huu Ly, 40, of Santa Ana, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was in critical condition and on life support systems Thursday night, Campbell said.

Another passenger, Chien Long Nguyen, 21, of Long Beach, was also on a respirator and listed in critical condition Thursday night at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, Campbell said.

The driver, Tan Bui, 28, of Westminster was taken to UCI Medical Center, also in critical condition. All three men suffered serious head injuries, Campbell said.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured. No one had been cited pending further investigation, police said.
