COUNTYWIDE : Groups Laud Flynn for Water Coalition

Share

Ventura County Supervisor John K. Flynn has been honored for his work to create a water conservation coalition between Northern and Southern California.

Two statewide conservation groups, the Environmental Water Leadership Council and the Local Government Commission, presented Flynn with an award on the opening evening of a three-day water conference over the weekend at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

As chairman of the Southern California Water Committee, a group that he co-founded, Flynn helped design a blueprint for urban water conservation that could save enough water to serve several million people a year.

The blueprint, a list of 16 measures to reduce water use, was produced after two years of negotiations between Northern and Southern California water suppliers.

In addition to several Ventura County water agencies, the giant Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and several other of the state’s huge water purveyors have signed or pledged to sign the agreement.

“Supervisor Flynn has created local and statewide coalitions that are committed to ensure a safe, reliable water supply now, during the drought and for future generations,” said Joan Wilson Anderson, executive director of the Southern California Water Committee.
