District Begins Superintendent Search

Share

Ocean View School District trustees have agreed to spend $20,000 to hire a consultant to help in the search for a new superintendent.

The trustees also agreed to appoint the district’s new administrative chief in April, more than two months before Supt. Monte McMurray officially retires. McMurray’s three-year contract expires on June 30, but because of accumulated vacation time he will be leaving the district in April.

The board is requesting applications from about a dozen consulting firms. Trustees will interview those bidding for the job and will make a selection within two months. At that time, trustees will discuss what they will be seeking in McMurray’s successor.

The consultant will recommend a list of candidates, from which the board will choose several finalists. Those candidates will be examined and interviewed before trustees hire one as their new superintendent.

McMurray will not be involved in the process.

McMurray abruptly announced his retirement last month, surprising school board members.

He spent 20 years with Ocean View.
