Miner Gets 38 to Lead USC Over Czechoslovakian Team

Share

USC’s basketball team should be easy to defense this season. If opponents can shut down Harold Miner, they’ll have a good chance of beating the Trojans.

After losing forward Ronnie Coleman, the all-time leading scorer in USC history, and guard Robert Pack from last season’s team, the Trojans may be a one-man team this season.

Miner, who scored 44 points in an exhibition game last week, scored 38 points as the Trojans defeated Trencin of Czechoslovakia, 102-56, in an exhibition game Monday night at the Lyon Center.

“In the two games we’ve played I don’t think he’s taken more than two bad shots,” USC Coach George Raveling said.

Miner made 12 of 20 shots, including three three-points shots, and made all 11 of his free throws in 27 minutes. He also had four rebounds and one assist.

Miner had 27 points in the first half. Guard Rodney Chatman hit a 65-foot three-point shot at the end of the first half to give the Trojans a 57-40 lead.

Trencin plays an exhibition game against UCLA tonight at Pauley Pavilion at 7:30.

USC opens the regular season against Tennessee Martin on Nov. 22 at the Sports Arena.
