Free agent outfielder Bobby Bonilla, who is not expected to return to the Pittsburgh Pirates, has drawn the attention of Angel Manager Buck Rodgers.

“What you saw of us near the end of last season is what we’ve got,” Rodgers said Monday of the Angels’ need for players. “We brought them all up. There are no hidden treasures down there in double-A or single-A ball.

Added Rodgers in a speech to the Associated Press Sports Editors organization at Dana Point: “The talk is that it will take $25 million to get him, and it is kind of like, for now, everybody is waiting on him to see what he’ll do, and for how much. Every year, there is a player who sets a new standard, and Bonilla is it for this year.”

Unlike Bonilla, Dodger right-hander Mike Morgan says he has grown weary of changing teams. Morgan is seeking a four-year deal; the Dodgers have made a three-year offer.

“I know I was upset at the Dodgers earlier because of things that have happened during my three years here, but I have since realized that after playing with six different organizations, I would be willing to settle down,” Morgan said from Utah.

Dodger pitcher Orel Hershiser, sources say, is seeking a guaranteed three-year deal, one season more than the Dodgers are willing to offer. Sources said he has been contacted by several teams, including the Angels.
