Share

The City Council on Tuesday agreed to join a coalition of cities throughout the county in a police task force to crack down on drug trafficking.

Six teams with 10 officers each are being assembled from 48 police departments and the Sheriff’s Department, said Lt. Don MacNeil of the Glendale Narcotics Bureau.

The teams will serve as regional networks in combatting illegal drugs. A San Fernando Valley team of investigators from Glendale, Burbank, San Fernando, the county sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office is expected to work out of the Glendale police headquarters, MacNeil said.

The task force is funded with almost $4 million in federal grants. Money and assets seized by the teams will be divided among participating agencies.
