Let Chamber Pay Own Tab

Share

The Port Hueneme Chamber of Commerce, without equity or guarantees, asked and got its $7,500 loan approval from our Port Hueneme city fathers; fiscal prudence be damned.

The city fathers keep saying that they need more revenues, so they freely created a “view tax” and assessment districts, and dipped their fingers into the cookie jar (the reserves) to balance their uncontrolled budget.

One councilman publicly acknowledged it was a difficult decision, especially since they had each been recognized by our Chamber of Commerce for their distinguished service (easy spenders).

The Chamber of Commerce has good intentions, but intentions do not pay the rent. Questionable management got it into this fiscal hole, and it should be made to stand alone and have its own members pay the tab.

Unfortunately, our city fathers can’t bite the fiscal bullet of restraint, but they know how to spend our money and raise our taxes. Final approval is scheduled at the next council meeting on Nov. 20. Join me in objecting.
