Beverly Hills : Traffic Project Gets OK

Share

The stretch of Olympic Boulevard that lies within Beverly Hills’ borders will become “smarter” soon.

City Council members gave the go-ahead Tuesday to allow traffic signals at nine intersections, from Robertson Boulevard to Spalding Drive, to become part of the regional Smart Corridors demonstration project, whose objective is to manage congestion on the Santa Monica Freeway and parallel arterial streets on the Westside.

Beverly Hills will maintain control of traffic signals at the intersections through advanced computer technology, but information about traffic will be fed to a central database for the region.

The demonstration project is slated to last two years, beginning in the spring of 1993. It will be funded by the state and administered by the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission.
