Beverly Hills : Incumbent’s Lead Grows
Incumbent Peggy Elliott Goldwyn pulled closer to victory in the race for a seat on the Beverly Hills school board as county workers tallied absentee ballots from last week’s election.
Goldwyn’s lead over challenger AJ Willmer grew from six votes after Election Day to 20 votes, but an undetermined number of absentee ballots remained to be counted at the county Registrar-Recorder’s Office.
Four out of five seats on the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education were up for grabs Nov. 5. Three seats were for four-year terms, and one was for a two-year unexpired term.
Richard A. Stone, a former Beverly Hills mayor, and Phillip A. Harris, a parent activist, came in first and second, respectively, in the contest for the four-year terms, with Goldwyn and Willmer running neck-and-neck for the remaining seat.
Lillian Raffel won the race for the unexpired two-year term by a solid margin.
County workers have been counting absentee ballots and auditing election results since Friday. Official, final results must be turned in by Nov. 25.
