IRVINE : UCI Development Plan Moves Forward
An environmental impact report for UC Irvine’s proposed north campus project won approval Thursday from the University of California Board of Regents, setting the stage for negotiations with the city of Irvine on a development plan.
The north campus project is envisioned as a mix of housing, office, and research and development facilities on a 113-acre parcel of university land opposite the Irvine business complex on Jamboree Road. The development would generate annual revenue for teaching and research at the university.
The plan approved by the regents calls for 300 multiple-family residences, 420,000 square feet of office and retail space, and 230,000 square feet of research and development space.
The project would be built just south of the UCI Arboretum and research facilities, on what is now largely open space bordering the San Joaquin Hills Marsh.
