Sierra Madre : Paper Distribution Studied

Share

The City Council last week instructed city staff members to prepare an ordinance prohibiting the distribution of unsolicited newspapers to residents who do not want to receive them.

City Administrator James E. McRea told the council Tuesday that free newspapers tossed on driveways are causing a nuisance and contributing to refuse generation and litter, as well as serving as an invitation to burglars when they pile up.

The ordinance would allow Sierra Madre residents and business owners to notify the city if they do not want to receive the papers.

A list of the addresses would be made available to distributors of the material, and distributors would face misdemeanor charges for violating the ordinance.
