A 33-year-old man who was trapped in his car after it crashed into two parked vehicles died early Saturday as firefighters tried to rescue him, Los Angeles police said.

Brian M. Hudson of Los Angeles might have had a heart attack before the accident occurred shortly after midnight in the 5000 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Sgt. John Amott said.

Witnesses told police that Hudson’s 1989 Chrysler LeBaron was traveling between 55 and 60 m.p.h. when it suddenly veered off the road in the middle of the block.

“Everything seems to indicate that he might have had some kind of a heart attack,” Amott said. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office had not yet determined the cause of death, a spokesman said.

Hudson was pinned between the steering column and the dashboard after his car jumped the curb, smashing into a tree and a wall before hitting the two cars. Rescue crews worked to free Hudson from the wreckage, but paramedics pronounced him dead at 12:40 a.m.
