Two Men Killed in Fiery Freeway Crash
Two men were killed early Sunday in a fiery, chain-reaction crash on the San Bernardino Freeway that began when a car plowed into a disabled vehicle, then was struck by another car and a truck hauling newspapers for The Times, authorities said.
The accident occurred at 2 a.m. on the freeway at Towne Avenue, just southwest of Pomona, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said. The dead men, who were traveling in the second car to hit the pileup, were not identified.
They were killed after the truck, whose driver apparently did not see the crash ahead, ran into their vehicle and caught fire, the dispatcher said. A third person in their car was injured and hospitalized.
