2 Stores Add to Alley’s Appeal
Two more excellent sources for quality bargains have opened in the Alley in the Valley--discounters of women’s leather shoes and dressy dresses--enhancing a worthwhile shopping spot in Tarzana.
The cluster of high-end discounters is anchored by My Fair Lady, which sells women’s dressy sportswear, and Marlene Gaines Handbags and flanked by A Touch of Spring, purveyor of hats and accessories, and Jan’s Artwear, which sells custom art apparel. They are all excellent sources for quality merchandise at bargain prices.
Honey Harlow has moved Honey’s Shoes into the space vacated by Reflections, a short-lived women’s apparel shop, and has filled it with top-quality women’s shoes.
Honey’s inventory consists of all-leather shoes by the likes of Bruno Magli, Ferragamo, Charles Jourdan, Timothy Hitsman, Vittorio Ricci, J. Renee and Walter Steiger. There’s also a good selection from Caressa, Joyce and Impo. A few other big names from high-end manufacturers were on the racks, but Honey asked us not to name them because it might put their availability in jeopardy.
Honey’s taste veers to bright colors and high style. She also goes in for lots of wedges and sandals, which she plans to carry year-round.
The prices are about 30%-50% off retail. Some Mary Popps knee-high boots that sell for around $250 were $125. Caparros’ jeweled flats now in the stores for $69 are $55. In gold lame with bright jewels or silver with crystal beads, the Caparros are chic and popular. Beaded tennis shoes by Chinese Laundry are a good buy at $39 instead of $50-$55. Overall, Honey’s prices range from $19 to $125.
The sizes run from 4 to 12 with lots of narrows but few wides. For a change, women with narrow feet have a good selection at a discount. Some styles are last season’s, some are current.

Dressed Up, another new winner in the Alley, is for women looking for high-end, dressy attire. The shop has some oh-so-chic designs with gorgeous special occasion clothes from top designers at affordable prices.
A stunning black 100% wool crepe Nolan Miller pants suit that would be out of sight for many budgets at $660 (the current price in most retail stores) is exactly one-half or $330.
A Farinae plaid sequined jacket, in a major boutique’s current catalogue for $525, was getting a lot of attention with a price of $325.
Other names on the racks: A.J. Barry, Kasper, Dore, Black Tie (Oleg Cassini), Miss Elliette, all 35%-50% off retail.
A black-and-white houndstooth jacket studded with rhinestones by Dumas is $85--a deal when you consider it is retailing for $135.
Owner Michael Weintraub receives a huge shipment of coats . . . too big for his pint-size store, so he is staging a Friday-through-Sunday Parking Lot Coat Sale. Current styles from Cattiva, Lilli Ann, London Fog, Checkpoint and Style VI will be 40%-60% off retail. There are also some nice faux fur pieces from Lilli Ann.
This is a wonderful little shop, which won’t stay little very long.
