Arena to Host Weekly Boxing

The San Diego Sports Arena announced that it will promote a monthly card of championship boxing beginning in January, Arena General Manager Richard Esquinas said Thursday.

Esquinas said the series will include ranked boxers and title fights on the last Wednesday of each month in 1992.

“We’re making a major commitment to the boxing scene here in San Diego,” Esquinas said. “The idea is to create a legitimate venue for quality boxing. We want to bring the sport back to the fans.”

Esquinas said only ranked boxers or championship-level fights will be featured, not club bouts.
