Community Hospital to Close in January

Share

Citing long-term financial losses and a decline in the number of patients, officials at Panorama Community Hospital have announced plans to close the facility in January.

Competition from larger hospitals, new technology that reduces the length of hospital stays and health plans that direct patients to other facilities have created a difficult climate for smaller hospitals, Gustafson said. The hospital has 96 beds, but recently only an average of 30 beds have been occupied.

The hospital is not a part of the county’s trauma network and the closure is not expected to have a major impact. Nine other hospitals are within five miles, Gustafson said. Officials are working to help find jobs for the 275 employees.
