Sewage and Water

Share

Shame on the San Diego City Council and City Manager Jack McGrory! On Oct. 7, the City Council voted to return to a flat rate sewer charge ($19.24 per month), which will increase sewer costs for 63% of the San Diego single-family domestic customers. This seems to indicate that the City Council feels there should be no incentive for water conservation.

However, in an about face, the council voted on Nov. 12 to require water-saving devices for toilets and shower heads. Additionally, Jack McGrory sent a letter to all city residents asking to retrofit shower heads and toilets, ending with, “Thank you for conserving water . . . our most precious resource.”

As a San Diegan concerned over water conservation, I applaud the second measure, but am insulted by the first decision. Please, other concerned San Diegans, call or write the city manager and City Council to have the sewer rate vote overturned. Demand that we are rewarded for conserving water.
