Chad May threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Frank Davis with 38 seconds remaining Saturday to lift Cal State Fullerton to a 37-36 victory over Cal State Long Beach before 2,123 in Santa Ana Stadium.

The score capped a 10-play, 86-yard drive that consumed only 1 minute 9 seconds and featured a 14-yard pass to Kerry Reed, a 25-yarder to Pat Lynch and a 12-yarder to Danny Pasquil.

Long Beach’s final possession was halted when Titan linebacker Teddy McMillan’s interception--Fullerton’s fourth--ended a game in which the lead changed hands six times.

The Titans, 2-9 overall and 1-6 in the Big West Conference, held a 31-24 lead after May’s one-yard scoring pass to Robert Bedford with 9:18 to play.

The 49ers (2-9, 2-5) came back twice in the final 2:21 to take a 36-31 lead. Long Beach quarterback Todd Studer, who completed 17 of 27 passes for 393 yards, connected with Mark Seay on a 72-yard touchdown play to make it 31-30, but Studer’s pass to Dan Early on a two-point conversion attempt was knocked away by Joseph Vaughn.

Darwin Walker then recovered an onside kick, ripping the ball out of Titan defensive back Michael McGuire’s hands to give Long Beach possession on the Fullerton 49-yard line. Early turned a short pass over the middle into a 38-yard gain, and Reggie Webb scored on a six-yard run to make it 36-31 with 1:47 left.
