Letter of Law Against Gangs

Share

How remarkable to read that after the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department shows interest enough in their well-being to mail 50 letters to “families of hard-core gang members” across the county, trying to alert the families to possible danger, they receive only two responses from those families.

Even harder to believe is the statement from the director of community relations at the “advocacy” organization, El Concilio, who faults the Sheriff’s Department for not making personal calls on these families. He claims he cannot “comprehend” the department “trying to scare people into doing something about their children possibly being in gangs with this sort of letter. . . .”

Does the estimable advocate “comprehend” what that would mean in man-hours for the department? Is this “advocacy” group not willing to forgo its knee-jerk adversarial posture long enough to appreciate the effort being made to save at least some of their children?

The emergency room staffs at St. John’s and County hospital would be hard put to “comprehend” any such opposition to the effort to help those most at risk.
