Hirmez to Join St. Louis

Former Socker Waad Hirmez said Wednesday he has agreed to a contract with the St. Louis Storm and will fly to St. Louis to sign it Friday.

His first game in a Storm uniform will be Saturday against the Baltimore Blast, which cut Hirmez two weeks ago after the player and Coach Kenny Cooper took a squabble to Baltimore newspapers.

Hirmez, who led the Sockers with 43 goals last season, said he will make the same money in St. Louis that he was getting in Baltimore, but would not elaborate. It is known Hirmez signed with the Blast for less than the $46,000 offered him by the Sockers during the summer.

Hirmez said after Baltimore cut him he briefly entertained an offer from the Sockers--for about a half-second.

“It was for the minimum rookie salary,” said Hirmez, a seven-year veteran.

Hirmez scored three goals and assisted on three others in five games before being let go by the Blast.
