PLAN Initiative

Share

This is in response to a Mira Mesa constituent’s recent letter (Nov. 24) expressing her support for PLAN’s initiative. In the letter, it was incorrectly stated that I “don’t want to put the initiative on the ballot.”

I voted to place it on the June, 1992 ballot when the initiative came before the City Council to either be adopted or placed on the ballot.

It was following the council’s decision to place the initiative on the ballot that a judge’s ruling prevented that from happening. The judge ruled that the initiative violated California’s single-issue rule for initiatives by combining the issues of growth management and prevailing wages.

I do feel that the people should have the opportunity to vote yes or no on it--once it has satisfied the requirements of the initiative process.
