Cal State Fullerton’s Claudette Jackson and Joey Ray scored 22 points apiece to lead the Titan women to an 89-71 victory over Georgetown for the championship of their own tournament Saturday night in Titan Gym.

Ray, a senior, set a Titan women’s record by making six three-point baskets in seven attempts to break her own mark of five made set last year. Jackson, named tournament MVP, also had 10 rebounds and three assists.

The victory over Georgetown (3-1) gave the Titans (2-0) the championship of their own tournament for the first time.

Ray’s three-point shooting helped propel Fullerton to an 18-9 lead with 14:01 left in the first half, but the Hoyas made a run behind guard Kris Witfill, and Georgetown took its only lead of the game, 28-27, with 6:15 left in the half. But Ray hit two consecutive three-pointers, and the Titans never trailed again.

Georgetown came back from a 53-40 second-half deficit to close to within 53-47, but a 10-0 Titan run ended the Hoya threat.

Witfill led Georgetown with 21 points. Fullerton’s Kisa Hughes, a 6-4 freshman, came off the bench to score seven points, grab 12 rebounds, block three shots and make three steals.
